Where do colors come from?

Lumi, a smiling beam of sunlight, in a scene from Lumi's Color Adventure

Ride along with Lumi, a little beam of sunlight, to find out where rainbows come from, why an apple looks red, how your eyes see color, and why light and paint mix in opposite ways.

A 4-minute film for kids 4 to 9.

How a lesson works

  1. Watch or play

Short animated films with captions, and games with Little levels for ages 4 to 6 and Big levels for 7 to 9. Read-aloud uses your device's voice and can be switched off.

  2. Explore

Films end with a hands-on lab, like the Color Lab where you mix light and paint. Games let kids guess, test and try again as often as they like.

  3. Try it

Each lesson comes with notes for grown-ups: the big ideas, quick experiments and questions to ask.
